Modern Eco-friendly Wedding

In this day and age when everything that is clothes, food, packaging, fashion etc are eco-friendly, there is a paradigm shift happening in the wedding season. Today more and more brides and bridegrooms are turning towards eco-friendly things for their wedding. And so there is a huge demand for clothes, invitation cards, flowers and everything else that is vital for the ceremony produced or procured in a manner with the lowest possible impact on the environment.

One of the best examples of this could be completely doing away with decorations using flowers. In Indian weddings marigolds are extensively used. They can be easily replaced with other decorations or at least with seasonal easy to procure locally grown flowers.

Small Indian Wedding. No longer a part of myth, more and more people are now opting to have smaller weddings in order to avoid wastage of resources and still have their near-ones witnessing their grand day. It will also make the day more memorable as the only the people who really matter will be present on the day. One can also choose a venue not too far from the city to reduce the impact on environment from traveling. Also a shuttle or bus can be arranged for guests to carry them to the venue thereby helping the environment and giving the guests a safe means of transport for travel back after they’ve consumed alcohol.

It is also a wonderful idea to reuse the bridal clothes of mothers and other relatives in the family. Every bride wants to look her best on her wedding day, however there is no rule that says a dress that has made one bride look beautiful can’t do the same for another. Using an already used wedding dress will be more comfortable on the pocket and if styled well could give the bride a classic vintage look.

Green can be added be added to the wedding day through use of proper crockery instead of disposable plates and glasses. Organic cotton and linen for napkins. Also invitation cards could be made from recycled paper. There are also firms like Haathi Chaap that specialize in paper made from animal dung.

The idea behind an eco-friendly wedding is not to just use eco-friendliness as the theme of the wedding. Rather the idea is to make a conscious effort to minimize the impact on the environment of the most special day of ones’s life and to try to make the celebrations more heartfelt. Indian weddings are known to have many colours and hues. However adding the green colour is the most conscious and responsible decision one could make.
